Enter his gates with thanksgiving and praise

We must teach our children how to pray just as the disciples of Jesus asked Him Teach us to pray LordThe disciples came to Jesus and asked Him "Teach us to Pray Lord"  Our children must be taught how to pray and that REAL Heroe's pray for strength, power, wisdom, help from a higher place, and that is God. Prayer is the language of the heart.

Teaching Children How to Pray

How should a child be taught to pray? It is very simple. Teaching children to pray is like that. "Just talk to God," Just like we talk to each other. Just as you talk with your friends, or family. It is a journey. Just as we use the number 3 throughout this program there are only three colums or items to list. The number three is used throughout the Bible .

A prayer  journal  or notebook is not a diary. The difference is a record of events. A journal or notebook is reflection on how God is working in the events of one's life, not a record of events.

I recommend that the children make a PRAYER NOTEBOOK: this is a way that the children can learn to write down the needs of others. You can simply use a notebook and have them decorate the front of it, or just take two sheets of colored paper and place a few blank white sheets in the middle. Have them place their hand on the front and trace it.  Since we are using the 5 finger prayer perhaps you could make a copy of the prayer and also place it inside their prayer notebook. Children see people in church write down notes during a sermon or prayer requests, even churches have prayer request forms.  Then as the children speak out they can write down these requests in their notebooks or journal.

Mr. Johnson has a unspoken request

Explain to the children what unspoken request means. The journel should be simple just the day and the need.

The advantages of a Prayer Notebook or Journal:

Journaling is an excellent discipline!

The practice of writing your prayer out has proven over the years to be helpful to many. In todays world everything is written down, from the early years of childhood to our later adult lives. It teaches us to focus on our prayers and gives one the ability to go back and review what our prayer concerns were at curtain junctions in your life. While we reflect back in our notebooks and journels our faith will be strengthen when we realize that God answered a lot more prayers then you remembered. These Tools a child will carry throughout their lives.  Remember children are taught by example?

With this encouragement, a young child's prayer journey begins. We should use examples of prayer from the Bible. Daniel  is one of the Heroe's that we teach about in this program, he was a man of wisdom, prophecy and prayer. He even risked death to remain faithful in his prayer life.  Even though Israel was in exile, Daniel prayed on their behalf—a prayer of confession, not blessing or protection. The children should be taught it is important for us to pray for our nation. Do we pray for our nation the same way? Daniel shows us how as we again turn back to the Bible.
