John the Baptist a Real Biblical HeroThe Hero that gave it all for Jesus Christ for he preached and baptised people to make way for the MessiahJohn the Baptist - Was the one who prepared the way for Jesus Christ to come. Preached and baptised people in the river Jordan.

"In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, "A voice of one calling in the desert, "Prepare the way for The Lord, make straight paths for Him." (Matthew 3:1-3)

John the Baptist is one of the best-known people of The Bible. And for good reason - he played a unique role in what, and Who, was to come. He was considered very highly by Jesus Christ Who said about him, "Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist." (Matthew 11:11). One certainly couldn't get a more rock-solid personal reference than that.

John was a prophet whose own coming was prophesied by an earlier prophet (see Prophecy over 700 years before (Isaiah 40:3-5) - yet another illustration of God's step-by-step Plan.

John was a Levite. His father Zechariah was a Temple priest of the line of Abijah, and his mother Elizabeth was also descended from Aaron (Luke 1:5).

Jesus Christ and John the Baptist were related. Their mothers, Mary and Elizabeth, were cousins. (Luke 1:36).

John the Baptist was born 6 months before Jesus Christ (Luke 1:36). He died about 6 months before Jesus Christ (Matthew 14:10-12).

The angel Gabriel separately announced the coming births of Jesus Christ and John the Baptist.

John lived in the mountainous area of Judah, between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea (Matthew 3:1). "John's clothes were made of camel's hair (see Ships Of The Desert), and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey." (Matthew 3:4).

John had a popular ministry. "People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea, and the whole region of The Jordan. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River . (Matthew 3:5-6).

John the Baptist humbly baptized Jesus Christ (imagine the honor of being the one to do that). "Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me? Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." (Matthew 3:13-15)

John's ministry became so popular that some wondered if he was the messiah. He answered, "I am not the Christ, but I am sent ahead of Him." (John 3:28). With the ministry of Jesus Christ then begun, John recognized that his own mission was nearing its end: "He must become greater; I must become less." (John 3:30)  John's ministry, and life, came to an end when he admonished Herod (see The Herods) for his sinful behavior (Luke 3:19-20). He was imprisoned at Machaerus, a fortress about 9 miles (15 kilometers) east of the Dead Sea. There, he was beheaded.

John gave his life as a Hero for Jesus Christ he was beheaded

After he was killed, John's disciples came and buried his body, and then went and told Jesus all that had happened (Matthew 14:12). Jesus responded to the news of John's death by saying, "John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light." (John 5:35)

Jonah preachingJonah / Book of Jonah -GOD sent the prophet Jonah to preach to the people who lived in Nineveh in Assyria. They were enemies of the Israelites. Jonah did not want to go to Nineveh because he feared that if the Assyrians were converted, they might harm his people. Instead, he set out by boat for a far country. In this way he thought he could hide from God.
But God sent a violent storm upon the sea. "Throw me overboard," said Jonah to the sailors, "for I know that the storm has come because of me." So, praying to God for mercy, they threw Jonah into the sea. And the wind stopped,
Then a great fish; sent by the Lord, swallowed Jonah. He was three days and three nights inside the fish. There Jonah prayed, "When any soul fainted, I remembered the Lord, Now I will offer my sacrifice. I will pay what I owe to the Lord.

For God is my deliverer." At last, the fish threw Jonah out upon the shore.
God again ordered Jonah to go to Nineveh. This time he obeyed. He went through the streets of the city, crying, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be destroyed."
When the king and the people heard this, they were in great fear. The king ordered everyone in the city to do penance for his sins. Even the king did penance that God might forgive Nineveh.. God saw that the people were sincere, and in His mercy He spared the city.
Jonah feared that he might be looked upon as a false prophet. He built a hut outside the city and waited there to see what would happen.
God caused an ivy to grow and shelter Jonah from the hot sun. For this Jonah was grateful. The next morning, God caused the ivy to wither. The sun beat down with such heat on Jonah that he cried, "It is better for me to die than to live."
God then said to him, "You are sorry for the ivy, although you were not the one to make it grow. Shall I not, therefore, spare Nineveh, which has more than one hundred twenty thousand people?"
Jonah, cast into the sea to save the sailors, was like Jesus Christ, who was sacrificed to redeem the world. Jonah was three days inside the fish; Christ was three days in the tomb.
The story of Jonah shows God's interest; not only in Israel but in all mankind. It teaches that men must do penance for their sins. It also tells how God made use of His prophets, even when they did not want to carry out His messages.

Joshua - As the Israelites left Egypt on their exodus, Joshua was one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to reconnoiter the land of Canaan.   Joshua and Caleb were the only two who had confidence that God would give Israel the land of Canaan despite its formidable inhabitants. Because of their faith God allowed Joshua and Caleb to enter the promised land, but he vowed that the others of Joshua's generation would die in the wilderness. God instructed Moses to designate Joshua as his successor.  Joshua led the Israelites into the promised land. Took the army to Jericho and the Horns brought down the walls

Miriam-   At about the time that Moses was born, a decree had gone out to kill all of the Hebrew male infants in Egypt. To save Moses, his family placed him in a basket and set him adrift in a river. Moses' sister, Miriam, walked along the bank of the river, watching over Moses as he drifted downstream. When the Pharaoh's daughter found Moses, Miriam approached Pharaoh's daughter and offered to help her find a Hebrew nurse to help care for the baby (Moses). The nurse ends up to be Jochebed, Moses' mother. Years later, Miriam has a victory dance of the Israelite women to celebrate the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15:21). She is called a "prophetess" in Exodus 15:20, which would make her the first woman to be given that title. In Numbers 12, Miriam and Aaron criticize Moses for marrying a Cushite woman, and then further rebel against Moses, claiming that they are equals as prophets. But God confronts them, and strikes Miriam with leprosy for the rebellion. Moses and Aaron both pray for Miriam. She is cured seven days later. Her name is the Hebrew form of Mary, which became a common name given to Jewish girls, including the Mother of Jesus. Details about Miriam are found in the books of Exodus and Numbers.
