The lute in Biblical Times had 10 strings
Why build a THREE stringed instrument (Lute)
The number "Three" the most important number in the Bible
This way using THREE strings we can also relate to the Three Crosses, On the Third Day Jesus Rose, You can select whatever you want to tie into the Three stings on the instrument. But in my research about numbers, if it be the number 7 or 11 it dosnt really matter, although I have found that Three is used for many important things in the bible so please read my article about the number THREE. I do require that you use the number three by incorporating these facts;
1. The Trinity Father,Son,and Holy Spirit (3) yet ONE
2. Christ arose on the THIRD day (3)
3. Completion Three marks completion (Death ,Buried, and Reserrected.)
I could have used any amount of strings but with the STS system that I wrote for this program you are required to teach at least these three things for the Hands On crafting of the Three stringed Instrument.
Here you see the washers at the end of the shovel Here the eye-let is at the handle of the shovel

1. Plastic snow shovels that you can purchase from a local dollar store, brass wire, (28 gauge ) eye lets, washers.
Take and drill three holes at the top and bottom of the shovel. YOU MUST predrill these holes in the shovels before class. If you are doing the modification version using the TEN commandments you must drill 10 holes rather then three. So you must space them properly to get them all on the handle.)
2. Place the eye lets three of them in the top
3. Before class take washers and twist the brass wire around them
4. The brass wire with the washer is pulled through the hole at the bottom and taken up and tied through the eye-let at the top of the handle. ( This enables you to tune the string, but remember they will break so don't stretch them to much)
5. The children can either paint, use colored tape, or decals to decorate their stringed instrument after they finish.
(Note: you can also modify this lesson by placing ten strings on the instrument, one each week representing one of the Ten Commandments. You can start this project then in the second week and that will continue on for 10 weeks. A string each week. You can also make each week a pass out of that commandment for the class to take home and study. Sometimes I like to tie it to the string before I give it to the child.)
The Finished instrument. This instrument can be tuned and played
The scriptures contain the number three more than any other number.
