Music is a Ministry

"It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the ... instruments of music, ... that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God."   II Chronicles 5:13, 14

The introduction to the tabernacle and about what real worship is about.
You must first sign up for the programWeek Five Drums In week 5 we are now half way up the mountain and learning the 5th Commandment. The children will be learning about FAITH and Father Abraham. What makes a hero and what a hero really is. This is a great time for you to ask questions about who are the children favorite heroes. With the replies that you get you will see that it is so important that we as adults help to make a difference especially to who are children which are the future of our churches think are heroes.
You must first sign up for the programWeek Six Reed we are starting down the other side of the mountain as we learn the 6th Commandment this week. The instrument(s) this week is the double reed, the oboe along with the Pan flute you can use both or choose. In this weeks lesson we will talk about the STAFF using candy canes and about the GOOD SHEPHERD. The Bible hero this week is JOSEPH and his coat of many colors. It is important that you talk about Forgiveness this week, and use this example of sin and forgiveness. The children learn about light and darkness. It is great to have a candle or flash light around. The song in the exercise is This little light of mine.

THE BLACK BOARD ERASER (Sorry for Sin)
Introduce the talk by telling the children you are going to do some arithmetic on the blackboard. Write 2+2=5. Children will be quick to point out that you have made a mistake. Take the eraser and say, “luckily I brought something with me to change my wrong answer.” Write, “I hate you.” Tell them that is also a mistake, “The Bible say we must say, “I love you.” The eraser takes away a word and leaves a blank space where a new one can be written. Is there anyone here who has never made a mistake? David made a mistake. He was supposed to be out fighting and he saw a women taking a bath and although he had a Mrs David already, he wanted her as well. When he found out that she was expecting a child, he had her husband killed in a battle. Later in life he realized that he had made a mistake. The Bible calls our mistakes sin. We usually feel sorry when we sin, David did. What do you think he did? He said sorry to God (Ps 32). What does God do about our mistakes? (Demonstrate on the blackboard how God erases our sins.) Why can God do that? Because Jesus died for our sins. Jesus is like the eraser. He is able to wipe all our sins away. Challenge: Next time you make a mistake, and reach for an eraser, remember that Jesus is our eraser. He has the power to wipe our sins away so that we can correct our sins. (Give children an opportunity to say sorry to God for their mistakes.

You must first sign up for the programWeek Seven Bells There were bells attached to the priests robes in the bible. This week we will be crafting bells out of clay flower pots so you should make sure you purchase them before. We will be learning about the Bible hero Joshua . On our journey down the mountain we are now learning the 7th Commandment. The children are going up the keyboard and will be learning about the CROSS UNDER. This also is a time to incorporate the CROSS and about how Jesus gave his life for us all. Remember to have ink PINS around for the exercise. Also talk some about the Dove and that it is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Make sure that you incorporate the fact that our GOD is a GOD of promises, by using the RAINBOW coloring page from the Library.

You must first sign up for the programWeek Eight Shofar The journey down the mountain is nearly over as this week we will be learning the 8th Commandment. The handcrafted musical instrument is the SHOFAR and the TEMPLE TRUMPET your choice to do. The Bible hero is Joshua Again it is important for you to take some time and prepare for each weeks lesson. The materials that you use are provided in the Library and you have several choices. The children learn what a fanfare is and about how more then one note can be put together. The children will be coming down the keyboard this week as they learn to play from 1 to 8 or C to C and back down. This week is the CROSS UNDER as they come down the keyboard. Also if you can it is neat to give them out little wooden cross key chains which they will take home and give to their parents and perhaps explain about a CROSS over and a CROSS under but perhaps the CROSS of JESUS Christ was the bridge for us to Cross over rather then go under.
You must first sign up for the programWeek Nine hand cymbals Almost back to the bottom of the mountain as we learn the 9th Commandment. The craft is the hand cymbals. Remember that it is important that you have the children sign the Commandment Banner each week. The children now are learning about CHORDS and how the LEFT hand comes into the picture in music.
You must first sign up for the programWeek Ten String Instruments Back HOME. This week we have come back down the mountain and are back home as we learn the final of the 10 Commandments. This is a time for you to review all of them. The Instrument this week is my favorite it is the LUTE or guitar like instrument. It is made from a plastic snow shovel and the kids go wild about it. There is only THREE stings on this lute and it is important that you talk about the Holy Spirit this week and about the number 3. This project takes some preparation before class and allow yourself enough time to complete the instrument.
You must first sign up for the programWeek Eleven NP Review Week 11 is a time for review of the Heroes that the children have learned about, along with the 10 Commandments and the music. It is also a time for you to make some kind of craft for them to give their parents.
You must first sign up for the programWeek Twelve Graduation time the final week. This is a time for you to teach the children about the 12 heroes of Gods Disciples To talk about Fishers of men and what that means. Even though they are children they can make a difference in another Childs life or even an adult. As for the music part of this final lesson we will be talking about Whole steps and Half steps. This is a preparation for Level 2 upcoming leading into SCALES. You can also take time here for those who have missed a week in the crafting of the instrument to make up. You will have to make arrangements this week for parents or volunteers to be present to assist you especially if there are many children needing to craft a missed instrument.
