The Hebrew word which is translated as "Train" in Proverbs 22:6 is kha-nokh. "To guide, to tutor, to educate ; (biblical) to teach" as well as "to inaugurate, to dedicate, to consecrate" When the Bible says, "And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord." (Eph. 6:4) this means to respect your children so that they will learn to respect you. Because if you don't respect them first, they will not respect you. The key word is respect. Today our children are not being guided into what respect is. They don't sit with adults in worship they are marched off to Kid's Church, and Sunday School, do crafts and play games, and yes have a Bible lesson. These programs are important and by no means do we not support them. But the simple truth is our children aborb material and learn by everything they come into contact with, they are like a giant sponge. They absorb everything. To respect God, is to learn to about worship in his house as we worship. Children should become part of our Adult worship services at an early age, and we must guide them for they learn by OUR examples. The 'family' comes to church as a family then breaks apart for separate worship. We believe that the 'family' should worship together at least one Sunday each month. This means they all sit through the regular worship service together, not Dad and mom, upstairs while the kids go downstairs.
It sadened me as I gave a childrens sermon about prayer, as I spoke to the children about prayer and the altar, they would not come to the altar and kneel with me for prayer. If we don't guide our children and allow them to follow our Christian examples in adult worship, how will they ever learn? It is said respect is earned, but how can one respect if they never learn? Children should be part of our worship on a regular basis. They should sit with us at least one Sunday each month, and watch how we worship as adults.
There are many schools and coarses and programs today about worship, music, and the Bible. The Worship Academy is set up for "children". Adults sadly have to be trainied about worship. The Word of God states that we should "train" our children. We believe that we as adults have a duty to God to guide our children in his ways. Not to brain wash but to guide and give them their own free choice, because God gives each of us that choice.
Lets make a difference for the children of today will be tomorrows worship leaders. Here you can find free information and resources about worship. For those in leadership postitions that want to help make a difference and train children about worship on Their level. On their level is a series of articles by youth pastor Dan Wheeler.
The psalmist invites us to praise God inasmuch as the psalmist has first, himself, found such delight in God that his delight overflows spontaneously into praise; and inasmuch as the psalmist has come upon riches in God he expects us to find the same riches in God ourselves. What is impossible is for the psalmist to have found his life enlarged and his heart inflamed by that fire which breathes into us passion and purity and peace, to have found his mouth pouring forth praise for this -- only to add that there is nothing here for us. Impossible!
